Breeding dogs is not just a passion – it’s a responsibility, constant work, and commitment on many levels. Today, I am very happy to share the news: Moli has officially obtained breeding rights! During the show in Radom on June 1st, she also earned the last CWC certificate needed for the title of Polish Champion. We are now awaiting the championship approval from the Main Board of the Polish Kennel Club (ZKwP).

This is an important milestone in the development of our Crimson Dragons of Shu kennel and a huge source of pride – especially since each of these achievements was accompanied by many conscious decisions and hard work.

Health First

Dog shows are not everything. For me, the most important thing in breeding is the health and well-being of the dog, not just its appearance or titles. Although ZKwP does not require any tests from Chongqing Dog breed dogs to obtain breeding rights, I decided to conduct a broad range of preventive tests before allowing Moli to breed. Breeding is, above all, a responsibility for future generations.

Moli's documentation already includes:

  • HD A/A – no hip dysplasia,
  • ED 0/0 – no elbow dysplasia,
  • LTV-/- – no transitional vertebrae in the lumbosacral spine,
  • PL 0/0 – healthy patellas,
  • ECG – healthy heart, no dysplastic changes.

And that’s not all – more tests are already planned.

What Are Champion Titles?

The Polish Kennel Club (ZKwP) awards several types of official show titles:

Polish Puppy Champion (Ch.Pl.Sz.)
Awarded to dogs that receive the title of Best Younger Puppy or Best Puppy three times from three different judges, with at least one certificate from a specialist, club, or international show.

Dogs compete in younger puppy (4–6 months) and puppy (6–9 months) classes.

Polish Junior Champion (Mł.Ch.Pl.)
Requires earning 3 Junior Winner titles, also from three different judges, including one at a specialist, club, or international show.

Dogs compete in the junior class (9–18 months).

Polish Champion (Ch.Pl.)
The title can be earned after 15 months of age. Requires 3 CWC certificates (Show Champion Certificates), obtained:

  • from three different judges,
  • in intermediate, open, working, or champion classes,
  • with at least one from a specialist, club, or international show,
  • with a minimum 6-month gap between the first and last certificate.

Polish Grand Champion (Gr.Ch.Pl.)
Title for dogs that already have the Polish Champion title and gain 3 additional CWC certificates in the champion class from three different judges, with no time interval required.

Prestige or Formality?

I won’t hide it – Moli is often the only representative of the Chongqing Dog breed at shows. But this is not unusual – even for other breeds, including popular ones, it happens that a dog competes alone. The number of dogs in the ring is highly variable – depending on the season, show location, and current breeding trends.

We attend shows together with my wife, Paulina, and her Aussie – Milka. For them, the championship is a completely different story. In Australian Shepherds, there can be as many as 60 dogs entered, and Milka has competed in classes where she faced 8 rivals! Such numerous breed representations are exceptions – you can count them on one hand. Perhaps one day the Chongqing Dog will enjoy such representation!

It’s important to note that a lack of competition does not automatically grant certificates or titles. Each dog is judged individually against the breed standard. The judge is not obliged to award an excellent rating or certificate – even if there is only one dog in the class. Titles are the result of hard work, preparation, and real dog quality.

Still, for me, titles are not an end in themselves. I treat shows mainly as a tool for promoting the breed, a chance for socializing the dog, and a space to talk with people interested in Chongqing Dogs. Every question, smile, or comment confirms that our work truly makes sense.

Behind the Scenes of Judging and Updates

While awaiting the Board’s confirmation of the championship, I have also updated the "events" section on the kennel website – you will find all the shows Moli participated in, along with results, judges’ names, and justifications for the awarded scores.

Remember that the ring notes are written by assistants under the judge’s dictation, often in a hurry. Due to limited space on the scorecard, abbreviations are used, and the handwriting can be, let’s say, “medical.” I have tried to decipher all entries as accurately as possible. If there is any interpretative mistake – I apologize in advance!

If you would like to see the original scorecards – you are welcome. I will gladly share them over a cup of tea, while talking about the breed and our shared dog passions.

Breeding Plans

The year 2025 will be special – I plan the first litter of Chongqing Dogs in the Crimson Dragons of Shu kennel. The mother of the puppies will of course be Moli.

And who will be the father?
I’m not revealing that yet – the information will be announced with the official litter announcement. Follow my website and social media profiles so you don’t miss the news.
