Year of the Fire Horse
Today, February 17, marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Fire Horse (丙午). In Chinese terminology, this is the year Bingwu (丙午) – 'Bing' (丙) represents Yang Fire in the Heavenly Stem, while 'Wu' (午) corresponds to the Horse in the Earthly Branch. It's time to bid farewell to the Snake – a sign associated with wisdom, intuition, but also secrecy and cool calculation – and enter a period full of energy, dynamism, and fiery temperament.
In Chinese culture, the horse symbolizes loyalty, vitality, success, and an indomitable spirit. For us, breeders and enthusiasts of Chongqing Dogs, these qualities sound familiar – they are exactly what we value in our dogs.
Horoscope for Moli
Moli (born August 24, 2023) is a Rabbit in Chinese astrology. Rabbits are gentle, alert, and intelligent – which fits her perfectly!
The Horse and the Rabbit have medium compatibility. What does this mean in practice? Rabbits value peace, harmony, and predictability. Horses are lively, impulsive, and somewhat unpredictable. Moli might look at this new year with slight unease – much like she looks at real horses during walks (truth be told, they're not her favorite animals).
But here's the good news: both signs share honesty and loyalty. That's a solid foundation for a good year – even if we sometimes need to adapt to the new, horse-like energy.
Horse and Dog Together
What does astrology say about the relationship between Horse and Dog? What should we expect as dog people?
It turns out that Horse and Dog belong to the same harmony triad (三合 - Sān Hé) – a group of three signs (with the Tiger) that naturally complement each other. It's one of the best combinations in Chinese astrology.
How do these signs complement each other?
- The Horse encourages the Dog to step out of their comfort zone with energy and enthusiasm
- The Dog provides the Horse with a sense of security through stability and loyalty
- Both value honesty and truthfulness
Where could challenges arise?
- The Horse needs space and independence, which the Dog might perceive as lack of commitment
- The Dog can be possessive and needs constant reassurance of loyalty
- They have different life paces – the Horse rushes, the Dog is calmer
Puppy Horoscope
For dogs born in the Year of the Horse… well, horoscopes for animals are rare, but we can venture a small prediction for our puppies that will arrive in 2026.
Puppies born in the Year of the Fire Horse will likely be:
- Extremely energetic – fire and horse together know no rest. Expect dogs that need lots of exercise and challenges. These won't be couch potatoes!
- Independent and self-reliant – horses don't like being restrained too much. These dogs require wise guidance, a partnership, not constant control.
- Loyal, but on their own terms – they bond with their owner but need space. Not "velcro dogs" – their love manifests as willingness to work together, not constant demand for cuddles.
- Brave and self-confident – fire adds boldness. Socialization will be key to channel that courage well and teach the dog when to be bold and when to keep distance.
- Quick learners, but… – fire gives sharpness but also impatience. These dogs get bored quickly with repetitive exercises. They need variety and challenges.
For breeders: puppies from this year may require a slightly different approach – more stimulation, more challenges, but also more patience in teaching calmness. Fire sometimes needs cooling. Channeling their energy into constructive outlets – canine sports, tracking, nosework – will be ideal for them.
New Year Wishes
For our four-legged friends, we wish:
- May every walk be an adventure – full of new scents, paths, and joyful discoveries
- May the bowl always be full of treats – the healthy kind, because we care for our dogs like family
- May the ear scratches last forever – and every caress build an even deeper bond
For you, dear breeders and dog lovers, I wish you wonderful litters, successful shows, and unforgettable moments with your dogs. May the fire of passion for this breed never fade, and may each new litter bring you joy and pride. May your dogs be healthy, your friendships strong, and your breeding program flourish under the dynamic energy of the Fire Horse.
